I have been told that there is a state law, in Texas, requiring that 2 vehicles on the same policy MUST have identical coverage, even if one is not worth the higher coverage. Does anyone know about this?

The law is that all cars on the same policy must have matching LIABILITY limits. You can have one car that has comprehensive and collision and one with liability only. If one car has $250,000/$500,000/$100,000 liability, they all must have it. You couldn’t have another car on the same policy with $100,000/$300,000/$50,000 liability.
Don’t try to get around this by buying a separate policy with minimum liability on an old car because first, you would lose a multicar credit & could very well end up paying more to have 2 policies. Also, if there was a liability issue - you caused an accident say with a rental car & get sued, both policies could be called into play, the companies will argue about who may or may not pay & they may end up paying only a % each, you won’t be able to have both pay up to their limits. It can be a huge mess & both companies will probably nonrenew you.
