i am so sick of car insurance companies taking advantage of people with these super high prices just because the dumb law says you have to have insurance.

A few years ago when I lived in Oregon Auto insurers could (and did) check your credit but Washington law didn’t allow it- you could get car insurance without giving out your social security number. I am in Nebraska and need to know- do I have to give out my SSN to insurers?

So in early march my apartment was raided for pot, and a 1/2 gram was found. I was convicted of possession of marijuana and as part of Michigan’s driving laws even if the incident did not occur in a car your license is restricted for 6 months. Yesterday my mother (the insurance for the whole family is in her name) received a notice that i had 8 points on my license and my insurance rates would be raised. Confused about this i went to Sec of State and in fact found out that i have no points. I called Memic and explained this to them, they informed me that they do not use actual points, they use their system of points. For example OUID is a 6 point offense but they count it as 8 points. Passing a stopped school bus (which as far as i can tell is no points) they view as 8 points.

My question is, can they do this? We are switching insurances next month due to cheaper rates but this seems like a shady business practice to me.

Thanks for ur time!!!

-Pat

Okay, so due to law I was found at fault in an accident and the only witness was my mom who has a vested interest in me.
Anyways, is the investigation an insurance company does differ from the police report? (basically, do they come to their own separate conclusions?)
Thanks.

My mother in-law, applied for health insurance on 3 of the biggest Health Insurance companies and she was turned down from all them, due to her preexisting health condition. (Something with her feet, can’t think of the name of it). I was just wondering if any body knows of a Health Insurance company that would take people like her with preexisting conditions. Thanks in advance.
She wouldn’t qualify for a goverment insurance plan, she makes good money.
